The hormonal action is the regulation of the metabolism of carbohydrates: increased blood glucose stimulates the new formation of sugars from proteins and fats, increases hepatic glucose. You antitoxic and antiallergic action.
The pharmacodynamic action is a strong inhibition of mesenchymal reaction, anti-inflammatory, exudative and antiproliterativa.

CONTRAINDICATIONS AND WARNINGS
Do not administer to animals with bacterial diseases without concomitant antibiotic therapy, fungal or viral infections, kidney failure and / or liver, congestive heart failure, osteoporosis, bone fractures, diabetes mellitus, degenerative eye disease or corneal ulcers, hyperadrenocorticism, immune-treated animals.
Do not administer to pregnant animals during the last third of gestation, as this may cause a premature birth followed by dystocia, fetal death, retained placenta and metritis. The milk production in lactating animals may temporarily decrease with the administration of dexamethasone.

Do not administer in conjunction with:
-Antidiabetic: hyperglycemic action of steroids may counteract the effect antidiabetogenic.
-Barbiturates: injectors, can lead to a loss of therapeutic efficacy of corticosteroids.
Diuretics deplectores of potassium can result in significant hypokalemia with the risk of heart disease manifestations, muscle.
"Indomethacin: administered parenterally, may lead to an increased incidence of gastrointestinal disorders, especially peptic ulcer.
"Salicylates: it can lead to decreased salicylate plasma. In addition, it may increase the harmful effects on the gastric mucosa.
-Antihistamines: increasing degradation of Dexamethasone.
Do not administer concomitant therapy with other corticosteroids.
In case of infectious or parasitic diseases, antibiotics, or applied in conjunction with specific parasite.
Prolonged use of recommended doses for weeks or months, may show symptoms of Cushing, and abrupt cessation of treatment leads to atrophy of the adrenal glands (hypoadrenocorticism).
Important: It is a veterinarian's decision to establish an emergency therapy in the above cases contraindicated for use.

SIDE EFFECTS
In cases of infections, may mask the symptoms of the same as pyrexia, lassitude and poor appetite.
Reduces organic defenses predisposing the animal easier to microbial infections. Results in delayed wound healing.
It can cause weakness of striated muscle.
In dogs and cats can cause increased serum alkaline phosphatase (SAP) and glutamic pyruvic transaminase Serum (SGPT), weight loss, anorexia, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), vomiting, polydipsia and polyuria. Have also been seen euphoria and some changes in animal behavior with improved attitude.
In horses, a dose greater than 5 mg / animal can cause lethargy, which usually subsides after 24 hours. In some cases, can cause laminitis.
